Artist’s Statement.

My name is Elena Davies. I never had a choice between art or something else. In one way or another, everything revolved around art. I always painted, sketched and drew even though life was quite challenging at certain times. I have always liked a splash of colours, which could change the mood. Now, I am doing what I always dreamed of doing, and it is art. My work as an artist is inspired by a long-running tradition in my family of living side by side with the wildness of nature. When keeping and living with dogs is a norm, my family originated from the Karela-Finns, who traditionally survived by hunting and fishing for generations with the help of various dogs. My love for dogs stays in my family, as does my passion for the countryside and wilderness of the terrain and forests. As long as I can remember, I have lived with dogs.
I used to have poodles all my life until recently when I happened to obtain two chihuahuas. Now you can see that it is no wonder my theme is dogs. But not just dogs are the subject matter of my work. I get inspired by nature’s beautiful views, sky, clouds, and the greens of the field. My recent work was all about landscapes with heavy clouds and sunlight affecting the surrounding nature and the colours. My life’s experiences influence the subjects and techniques I adopt, enabling me to convey my emotions and connect with audiences personally.
